Not your average half-zip, the Solar Polar solves three pesky trail-running problems all in one fell swoop - and it looks good doing it.

I use the top for running on chilly mornings and as a base layer for hiking. It functions very well for both. The layer wicks great and I like the long sleeves (with thumbhole) to cover my hands on chilly morning runs. The top is loose enough that I can get a light t-shirt underneath. I'm 5'6", 140
I would recommend this product.

I am about 5'11 .... and this fits perfect!! the sleeves are long enough (which is often difficult to find). Very comfortable and breathable fabric. Can't wait to take it for a run!
I would recommend this product.

This is one of my favorite shirts. It keeps me cool during the humid days in Florida and functions equallly as well while hiking in the mountains. It is true to size and is extremely comfortable!

Compared to the other size small shirts I have from Columbia, this top is fairly snug around my ribs and waist and the material is a bit sheer and clingy. The shoulders fit so I am not sure that a larger top would work. Otherwise it has great features and promises to be cool on a hot day.
I would recommend this product.

I bought this for hiking in Mt Rainier Nat'l Park. It is super lightweight with ridiculously long sleeves (and I have ridiculously long arms). I'm 5'11", slim built with no chest, and a M was perfect to wear another light shirt underneath and have just a bit xtra room. Go with a S if you want a snug fit. I was on Mt Rainier in 8ft of packed snow for 6 hours on a very sunny day and the protection it offered from the sun was perfect. I'm definitely buying another.
I would recommend this product.

I bought this for running and hiking and thus far, it has worked great. Unlike others, I think it runs a bit larger than normal. I am 5'5", 128 lbs and I originally ordered a medium that was HUGE on me. I returned it and the small fits perfectly. The thumb holes are awesome too. Yes, it is fitted but not tight-- I wouldn't want it any looser for fear that it would catch on things while hiking and running.
In short, I think this is a great top and I'll probably be buying another one!
I would recommend this product.

I wear Med in all Columbia tops - the solar polar fits true to size. I like the sun protection this offers; I use it for my runs. The collar and extra sleeve (plus thumbholes) give that extra sun coverage. It does feel cooler after my runs. But it could be that I'm getting cooler because I stopped running. During the run, I'm still hot and sweaty. I saw some of the negative reviews about fit, but I think the fit is fine. The material is a thin jersey type material so it's a bit clingy. I'm not super lean and skinny, but I like how it looks. I plan to wear it on a 5k this weekend.
I would recommend this product.

I really like the idea of this jacket. It fits true to a small, but the belly of it was so tight! Any lump will show!

I read good reviews about this solar top in Backpacking magazine and wanted it for when I do medical missions in Africa since I am near the equator and don't like being in the sun. I also thought I could use it when I run. I am an over 60 year old, 5'3" physically active but not lean woman. I bought this top in a size larger than usual and the sleeves were way too long but the fit was still way too form-fitting for me. It showed every lump and bump. I never wore it to try out it's functionality --sadly since it looked very nice lying on the bed. I especially liked the blue color. I would only recommend this to my most lean marathon running friends!
